Being a coach and seeing Ethan at such a young age, you could see he was just a natural talented
sportsman.
Whatever sport he played he excelled in.
I remember we were at Winston Park and I was standing with his dad and Ethan was running
the 400 meters and he was in the final.
And this kid just came out of nowhere, absolutely annihilated everyone.
I looked at his dad, obviously I'd seen him play rugby prior to that and I said to his
dad I'll take your 100m back now, your son will be a spring bar.
And where they live they've got a school across the road so they've got an open rugby field.
Even on his day offs he was just putting in the effort, putting in the effort because
he's got a goal.
I lived right next to like a high school field so I was always there with my mates playing
stuff.
We had soccer balls, we had rugby balls, we had water putter balls.
We just hopped the fence over there at one of the high schools and we'd spend the whole
day out in the sun playing.
And even when my friends went there just go there by myself I hated being inside.
Being outside was a big part of my life.
I wasn't ever really big in rugby primary school, I was actually an SA track athlete.
